Travel & Culture

Music changed the way I travel. Travel changed the way I make music.

My work in travel grew directly out of years spent touring, performing, and building relationships with musicians in different parts of the world. I founded Havana Music Tours and later Musical Getaways to create small-group journeys where music is not an add-on to the itinerary — it is one of the main ways travelers understand a place.

Musical Getaways

Today I direct Musical Getaways, designing and leading musician-informed cultural travel in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and beyond. The work connects travelers with local musicians, venues, studios, festivals, food traditions, neighborhoods, and the people who keep those traditions alive.

Havana Music Tours

Cuba has had an enormous influence on the way I hear rhythm, think about cultural exchange, and understand the relationship between music and community. Havana Music Tours grew from those relationships and became the foundation for much of the work that followed.

The CreatiVRole Project

I also founded and help direct The CreatiVRole Project, a Colorado-based nonprofit focused on practical support for creative communities. Its work has grown from long-term relationships with musicians, teachers, families, and community leaders and has included instruments and creative supplies, humanitarian support, community projects, and recovery efforts connected to the places where our travel work has built genuine relationships.

For me, this is the most important connection between travel and music: cultural exchange should create relationships that continue after the trip ends.
